How to get a job at the State Bank of Pakistan in 2022
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) recently issued a job notification to recruit new employees through the Public Service Commission (PSC). Applications are now open and will close on January 20, 2022. We have already covered what you need to know about the SBP jobs and training program, but in this article we’ll explain how to get a job at the SBP in 2022, once the open positions have been filled by candidates who have already been identified by the PSC and other recruitment agencies as being worthy of joining the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
What kind of candidates do they hire?
For junior positions (Assistant Manager, Senior Assistant Manager and Junior Assistant Manager), they are looking for candidates with bachelor’s degrees. They prefer someone who has an MBA or relevant work experience. For most senior roles, though, a candidate needs to have either an MBA degree or master’s degree (in economics, statistics and/or finance). The prerequisite for these roles is usually 15-20 years’ work experience. In any case, all candidates will have to go through numerous interviews before getting hired. It might take as long as one year from when you apply till you’re offered a job.
What subjects should you study?
Given that you’re aiming for a position as an economist or statistician, your degree subject(s) and coursework should obviously focus on those subjects. Although many entry-level positions will require a Bachelor’s degree, some jobs are available with only an Associate’s degree. If you’re studying economics, make sure you take courses like microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, quantitative analysis and international economics. If you’re studying statistics—and if your future career plans include collecting data—make sure you take math classes that involve number theory and probability theory.
Get experience before applying
Think you have what it takes to make it into one of Pakistan’s largest banks? You might want to start getting some experience before applying. The application process can be long and arduous and making sure you’re qualified for even an entry-level position will save you time, money, and heartache. While working as an intern or gaining relevant experience is not required for many positions at SBP, having had prior professional exposure will greatly increase your chances of getting hired. In addition, being a current employee may give you access to information that others won’t have (like how much money bank employees actually make). Practice Multiple Choice Questions
One key part of any interview process is getting comfortable with multiple choice questions. Make sure you’re prepared for all types, from academic-style (What is 3 * 8?) to fill-in-the-blank (I would like ___ chance/opportunity to demonstrate my skills as a ___). For example, you could use an online question generator or, if you’re stuck inside and away from your computer, grab some index cards and write out these questions yourself. You should be able to answer them on demand. In other words: don’t do any work beforehand! Multiple choice question practice is designed not so much for knowing answers but rather getting comfortable answering them quickly without looking.
Take Professional Courses & Exams
Banking is one of those industries where it’s possible to go from entry-level (and starting out) all the way up through a top executive position without having been there and done that. There’s no rule that says you have to start off as an entry-level clerk and work your way up. If you have an interest in joining one of these institutions, do your research into what positions are open, and make sure you’re qualified for them. The more expertise you have under your belt, the better off you’ll be as far as getting your foot in that door. Regardless, banking is still an incredibly competitive industry—so it doesn’t hurt to shoot for perfection either!
Prepare for competency based interviews
One of your top focuses as you look for jobs should be preparing for competency-based interviews. These questions focus on past achievements and future goals, which is why it’s so important to have an overview of your past, present, and future all prepared. You might also want to seek out mock interviews with people who will be supportive (e.g., friends) and ask them tough questions. Once you’ve done that, consider enrolling in online courses or coaching sessions focused on interview skills, both will give you more insight into what successful candidates say and do during a mock interview session. And whatever you do don’t wing it! Having structure behind how you prepare will help increase your chances of impressing employers during an interview session.
Prepare a Resume that stands out
With more than 700 people applying for every single job opening, you need to make sure your resume is as impressive as possible. Just googling some sample resumes will not help you here. Rather, you need to know what hiring managers and recruiters are looking for when they go through resumes. If you’re really serious about landing a position with SBP, start by creating an impressive resume that showcases your strengths and sets yourself apart from everyone else applying for jobs. You should have no less than two well-crafted versions of your resume on hand—one traditional format and one creatively formatted version with unique fonts and interesting layouts. Having more than one gives you maximum flexibility when it comes time to apply for positions.
