What Are the MoD Recruitment Processes?
There are several recruitment processes that applicants have to go through when applying for jobs at MoD. That is because there are four different departments within MoD which focus on their own particular areas of work. These include Home Office (for internal functions), Defense Equipment and Support (all weapons procurement and maintenance, supply, research and development), Operations (the Armed Forces themselves), and Personnel and Training (recruiting, training etc). Each department has its own separate recruitment process. What Are MoD Career Paths?: There are a variety of career paths that one can take at Ministry of Defence.
How Will You Prepare For the 2019 Exams?
It’s never too early to start preparing for your exam. You’ll get started by following three steps: #1—Read our information guide on each exam; #2—Study by watching our provided training videos; and #3—Take sample exams under time-pressure, so you can get comfortable with how it feels. After all, nothing prepares you for the big day better than being put through your paces like a job interview! Speaking of which…
What Is the Order of Interview Rounds?
If you make it past round one, which is usually a short written test and/or skills assessment based on your application form, then you’ll be called in for a panel interview. Panel interviews are longer; they last between 20 minutes and an hour. You will probably be seated with two or three members of your potential future workplace. Expect to answer questions such as, Tell us about yourself? or Why do you want to work here? The panel will often also give some information about themselves, talk about projects they are working on and try to help you relax so that it feels like more of a chat than an interrogation.
How Does The Video Interview Process Work?
Most Ministry of Defence jobs will follow a similar video interview process. Candidates who pass their initial assessment are invited to book time on an online platform (such as Skype or Google Hangouts) and then will have an opportunity to showcase their skills through a series of questions. Typically, candidates may be asked up to 10-12 behavioural questions, which can range from logical reasoning type questions (Describe a situation where you disagreed with your manager) all the way through subjective questions (What do you think about working for government?). Candidates may also be asked more situational (or practical) based questions, such as asking applicants about how they would go about completing common tasks for a particular role at defence.
What Happens After The Interviews?
Once you’ve made it through all your initial interviews, it can be a little disheartening if you don’t hear back from them for several weeks. It’s completely normal for hiring managers to take a few weeks to interview multiple candidates; once you start hearing back from some contenders, be sure not to get discouraged and keep on trying! Be professional, stay positive and remember that even though rejection is never fun, it happens a lot—and that’s OK. Whatever happens with your interviews, take comfort in knowing that when one door closes another one opens—if it doesn’t now, there will always be another chance down the road. Keep working hard and build up your skills because an amazing opportunity could just be around the corner!
