The Hepatitis Control Program (HCP) was founded in 2004 to control the spread of viral hepatitis among the American population, and has been one of the most successful public health programs ever put into place. Since it’s founding, rates of viral hepatitis have dropped by 40%. Now, in 2022, they are looking to expand their team with both new and experienced members! This article provides an overview of HCP and their current openings, as well as some advice on how to start a career in public health care.
Eligibility
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Employment with CDC does not confer U.S. citizenship, permanent resident status, or any entitlement to U.S. citizenship; non-citizens may not represent themselves as CDC employees. Applicants will not be considered if they have been previously separated from federal service by reason of disability pursuant to 5 CFR 315 and 316 (CFR Part ADS-700). Only candidates who are appointed as a full-time career or career conditional employee will have an opportunity for future advancement and a regular competitive conversion application under 5 CFR 315 and 316 (CFR Part 307).
GED/High School Diploma
A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required for all positions. A related science, public health, or social science degree may be substituted for up to two years of college coursework if an equivalent GPA of 2.5 or higher can be demonstrated. Online education classes from regionally accredited institutions will be accepted at face value, though a transcript must still be submitted with your application materials. For purposes of equivalency, one year of full-time study equals one academic year (two semesters). While we do not have a minimum overall GPA requirement, some previous work experience in public health and/or experience interning/working with people at risk for hepatitis B and/or C will give you a leg up on your peers.
