FIFA World Cup 2022
Pakistanis Ready to Work at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar
The FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, scheduled to be held in November and December of 2022, will be the 22nd FIFA World Cup. The event will take place in Qatar after winning the rights by beating off stiff competition from the other nations that were keen on hosting the event. It has been predicted that around one million people from around the world will visit Qatar to attend the matches, tournaments and other events held during the 6-week period of the games. The extensive infrastructure development underway in preparation for the World Cup 2022 will provide employment opportunities for workers from different countries including Pakistan as well.
What are some of the jobs open?
Mechanical engineers, civil engineers, electrical engineers and architecture are some of the positions Pakistanis can fill. They’re also interested in architects, interior designers and landscape designers. Most companies hiring these professionals offer on-the-job training for anyone who doesn’t have formal qualifications. If you don’t have experience or a degree, but do have a strong interest and drive to succeed, you could still get hired as a foreign worker. Most large companies provide schooling for newly hired workers. During your schooling period – which usually lasts up to six months – most companies pay your salary and give you food vouchers.
How do I apply?
If you think you have what it takes, send your CV and a letter of motivation explaining why you want to work for 2022. Also, provide details of any experience or qualifications related to sports management. Send them by email before December 31, 2016. The email address is below: [email protected] The closing date for applications is on December 31, 2016. So if you are interested then submit your application as soon as possible. Applications will be accepted via email only. No phone calls please!
How do I get there?
Currently, there are no direct flights from Pakistan to Doha; you’d have to fly through Dubai or Abu Dhabi first. So you’ll have some traveling ahead of you (the United Arab Emirates is about a six-hour flight from Karachi). The good news is that Pakistan International Airlines has three daily flights between Karachi and Dubai, and one daily flight between Islamabad and Abu Dhabi. Some Pakistani expats work as cabin crew on Air Arabia, Etihad Airways and Flydubai — all of which service Pakistani cities — so it wouldn’t be surprising if they’re able to get you on a plane going directly from Islamabad or Lahore to Doha. You can also enter Qatar via land borders with Saudi Arabia or Oman, although border crossing information isn’t available online.
Could this be my ticket out of debt?
Nearly 30,000 Pakistanis traveled abroad for work last year, with 50 percent of those workers traveling to Saudi Arabia. Yet few are aware that one of their neighbors is also interested in hiring overseas workers: The 2022 World Cup host country of Qatar. By 2020, Saudi Arabia is expected to have 4 million new jobs created as a result of its investment into stadiums and infrastructure ahead of the tournament—but it’s not just Saudis who will benefit from these opportunities. For many countries across Asia and Africa, there’s an opportunity for steady employment if they can reach out and secure them first.
When can I start working there?
The process of applying for a visa begins months before, so if you’re interested in working at one of these jobs, start contacting your travel agent or airlines and plan ahead. In order to secure employment with one of these companies during 2022, you should also get your Qatari labor card early on as well. In order to receive a card, however, you must be sponsored by a company that is based within Qatar. Your sponsor will require some personal information such as identification documents, your educational background and professional references. Once approved by your employer’s management team and received by officials from both the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and General Directorate of Residency & Foreigners Affairs-Qatar (GDRSFA), you’ll be eligible for work permits through FIFA’s recruitment agency.
