About the Ministry
The Pakistan Navy established its own maritime affairs bureau in 2008. The bureau’s function was to integrate Pakistan’s naval strategy into national planning and to ensure that all aspects of economic development are consistent with national security objectives. In 2012, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani reorganized and expanded the bureau into a separate ministry, tasked with producing new policies and overseeing development projects relating to port infrastructure, coastal areas, tourism, marine research and law enforcement activities. The ministry has a short-term goal of investing $150 million per year for developing these industries.
