The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan or (SECP) is a government organization responsible for regulating securities markets in Pakistan. It was formed under Section 15-B(1) of Ordinance No. VIII, passed by General Zia-ul-Haq’s administration to facilitate reforms initiated by him. The ordinance provided that: There shall be established an independent financial regulatory authority, to be known as Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which shall consist of a chairman, deputy chairman and five other members. The primary purpose being to regulate capital markets within country, SEC issued Capital Issues Regulations 1992 along with various ordinances/regulations during its existence.
