What is the PMC?
The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, or simply PM&DC, is a government-run regulatory body for medical education and practice in Pakistan. It was established in 1953 under an act of parliament after being devised by then Prime Minister of Pakistan, Khawaja Nazimuddin. The commission’s headquarters are located at Islamabad. The administrative structure of PM&DC includes 22 committees that deal with medical education, licensing, registration of doctors and complaint hearings. The National Assembly acts as a watchdog to make sure that it carries out its duties effectively and serves citizens better. According to regulations set by PM&DC, every physician must register with a local district council as soon as he or she wishes to practice medicine in any public sector hospital.
Eligibility Criteria
