The Planning Commission (PC) conducts comprehensive studies of land use and planning issues, such as zoning and historic preservation, and makes recommendations to City Council based on its research. The Planning Commission also has responsibility for approving the City’s Comprehensive Plan, which provides a general guide to development in the City and identifies infrastructure needs, regional partnerships, housing policies, transportation policies, parks and open space needs, environmental protection measures, and capital facilities plans (parks, schools, fire stations). All commissioners are appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the City Council and serve three-year terms.
